2021 Ford Escape Review

2021 Ford Escape Review

The Ford Escape is a flagship in Ford's SUV lineup and one of the better-known crossovers on the streets of Lumberton, Sumter, Conway, and Florence for good reason. It's an elegant and sensible SUV that offers plenty of comfort combined with a solid engine lineup, good performance, a smooth ride, and outstanding technology.

From driver aids to a spacious cabin and tons of storage space, it offers everything you could want. Check out this 2021 Ford Escape review presented by Mike Reichenbach Ford.

2021 Ford Escape Overview

2021 Ford Escape Review

The new 2021 Escape is a formidable competitor among the best small crossovers. It's in its second year after a complete redesign and brings features like increased access to the hybrid powertrain, traffic sign recognition features, and the typical minor shuffling of trim levels and packages for greater availability of features.

The Escape is available in four trim levels: the base S, the upgraded SE, the refined SEL, and the classy Titanium. Most models are powered by a three-cylinder turbo 1.5L engine that makes 181 horsepower with 190 lb-ft of torque. With the SE and SEL, you can instead opt for a 2.5L hybrid that mates a 200-horsepower gas engine with a battery and gets an EPA-estimated 41 combined MPG.

Finally, you can opt for an available 2.0L turbo-four with 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. It comes in front- or all-wheel drive on any powertrain except the turbo-four, which is only AWD.

Infotainment and Safety Technology

The infotainment system, the latest Ford SYNC®, is driven by an 8-inch HD touchscreen that features an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, six speakers, full support for Android and Apple smart devices, satellite radio, and more. The available navigation system is superb with clear directions, and the voice commands are solid.

In terms of safety technology, you get the Ford Co-Pilot360™ system. It offers you all the basics including lane-keeping, blind-spot monitoring, and crash mitigation. It also offers unique features like available evasive steering to further bolster your crash mitigation systems. With the full package, it feels like you've got a second pilot whose sole job is to protect you on the roads.

Storage Space and Towing Capacity

2021 Ford Escape Review

Behind the back seats, you get tailgate entry to 33.5 cubes of cargo space. That's more than enough for basic luggage or groceries, and even a good amount of gear. With the seats folded down, you increase the storage to 65.4 inches.

When properly equipped with the towing package, the Escape will net you 3,500 pounds of towing capacity. That's enough for a basic trailer or to help a friend get out of a ditch.
